Musicians shine at MTN Calabar Jazz Festival

Nigerian musicians were at their best during the just- concluded maiden edition of the Calabar International Jazz Festival, which held at the Cultural Centre and Millennium Park, Calabar. The event was supported by telecommunications giant, MTN. Music lovers thronged the venue to watch their favourite artistes perform on stage with various jazz musical beats. Some of the musicians included Darey, Asa, Jonathan Butler, Eric Benet, Jimmy Lulu, Bez, Salvador Sango, Tari, Jazzy Leo, Dakore Egbuson-Akande among others.

The jazz festival attracted audiences outside the music arena and some of the country’s political bigwigs were in attendance who did not hide their love for the soothing effect of jazz music. They danced to songs from hit-makers of old, who teamed up with those of the present to serenade the city.

Asa thrilled the audience with her electrifying performance. She said “ MTN has always been involved in music from the beginning.

They have been there for the love of music, not just for business. You can see it in everything that they have done such as Project Fame, sponsorship of festivals and other events in the events. MTN’s General Manager, Regulatory Affairs, Oyeronke Oyetunde, while appreciating the outcome of the jazz festival, said: “This festival is a direct result of the demand from the more discerning MTN consumers, for a jazz event, in a more intimate setting, which is why MTN, being a responsible and responsive organisation that listens to the yearnings of its teeming customers, supported the Calabar International Jazz Festival.”
