When the trekking bug hit Nigeria

Taiwo Adediran revisits the trekking bug that infested Nigerian youths, post 2015 elections. He said it was more of an act to curry favor and slanted recognition. Read below:

Nigeria is a country hardly short of amusing malady. It is a nation carved in parody with inhabitants suffering from an overflow of unanticipated comedy. In its latest episode of this humour personified, is the gale of trekking. After what seemed a momentary lull in the trend, news filtered across the social media that a man named Stanley, a University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) student decided to trek from Nsukka to the Enugu State government house in honour of Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as he is the first man from Nsukka to be elected governor of the state.

...the general thrust of Radio Biafra’s mono cast is more emotive than rational - Ahmad Salkida & Chinedu Edwin

@contactsalkida
In an article titled "Addressing Radio Biafra’s Divisive Commentaries", by Ahmad Salkida and Chinedu Edwin, published on Premium Times, the writers dissect the Biafra Radio phenomena and the danger it portends. Its a must read:
In two separate newspaper articles published in 2006 and 2009 in the New Sentinel and Sunday Trust, and credited to one of us, the manner of Boko Haram’s total disregard for civil values was the point of discourse. The report in question warned that the government’s disregard of the rebellious inclination of the group would amount to a calculated catastrophe to society. The authorities ignored this at society’s general peril.

Clementine Wallop(@cwallop) lives in Abuja, Nigeria. She compiled a list of people, she says, should never move to Nigeria. Read below and see if you fall into any of it:

That Nigeria is a hostile environment for expats I will contest. That Nigeria is for everyone, I can’t: it’s complicated, noisy, it’s occasionally chaotic and on the wrong day even Job’s patience would have worn thin. Here are ten sorts of people who shouldn’t move to Nigeria:

Dele Momodu shares his thoughts on Pres. Buhari's 30 days in office

Ovation publisher and staunch Buhari supporter, Dele Momodu, yesterday shared his thoughts on Pres. Buhari's four weeks in office as president. Read below, Momodu's memo, 1st published on Thisday..
Your Excellency, I write to you today with a heavy heart. The reason should be obvious. I was one of those latter day converts to Buharism, a political philosophy that believes in the reincarnation of former leaders in the days of tribulation. You were never the first man to resurrect from retirement and near political oblivion. General Olusegun Obasanjo bounced back from prison to Aso Rock Villa.

Below is the breakdown of the monthly earnings of a Nigerian senator:

Ghana is not Nigeria: Elderly in Kumasi takes to the street over power shortages

Unlike Nigeria, Ghana has a relatively stable power supply. But in recent times, Ghana seems to be experiencing severe power shortages, from Accra to its second largest city, Kumasi.

On Wednesday, hundreds of elderly women and men started demonstrating in Kumasi over the electricity shortages in the country.

How Men Make 200 Million Sperm Every Day

Human testes are masters of mass production, spitting out sperm at a rate of 200 million per day. But that doesn’t mean the process is fast–it takes 64 days to make a sperm. The organ keeps the count high with an assembly-line anatomy that scales up sperm development from a trickle to a flood.

About 300 bundles of seminiferous tubules lurk beneath the fibrous wall of a testis. Each bundle contains one to three tubules, each ranging in length from one to three feet long. The tubules are hollow, with a distinct wall surrounding an open lumen. Most of the sperm development action happens at the wall.

New Music: French Montana, Rick Ross, & Lil Wayne “Lose It”

French Montana teams up with some of America's finest in the game...Ricky Rozay and Lil Wayne to lace his Kanye West-produced banger “Lose It.” The song was initially titled “Gucci Mane,” but for obvious reasons, they decided to change it to “Lose It.”

The track opens up with a sample of Kanye’s “N*ggas In Paris” lyric, “What’s Gucci my n*gga? What’s Louis my killa?” Then Rick Ross can be heard on the song’s hook rapping, “I think I’m ’bout to lose it, mane/ said I’m ’bout to go Gucci Mane.”

Horrifying footage: Machete-wielding maniac terrorizing an entire neighbourhood

Met Police helicopter camera captured the man smashing down fence, breaking into back garden with machete in hand and the police officers saying 'the lady is dead, she's been decapitated'

In the footage, the killer is seen storming through back gardens in Edmonton, north London, after attacking 82-year-old Italian café owner Palmira Silva with a machete. Buhari and the short-changing of Change by Olufemi Oluwaseye

I found this article on Twitter and it seems quite interesting, so I decided to share it here.

There’s the popular fable of a CEO who was fired for poor performance. In his handover notes to his successor, he advised him to check for three envelopes in his desk. In the envelopes were written time-tested solutions to whatever problem he would face in office. As expected, after few months, he encountered his first crisis. It was so turbulent he was going to be consumed. Then he remembered his predecessor’s notes. Quickly, he dashed for the desk drawer, and reached out for the first envelope. He opened it, and found written there: “Blame your predecessor”. It looked simple enough, but he tried it anyway. It worked!. He was left off the hook. Problem solved. Free as a bird, he went on with his job. Again, after few months, he encountered another crisis. As he was about to be consumed, he dashed for the desk. Picking the second envelope, he found written there: “Blame the system”. Again, he did, and he was left off the hook. Life couldn’t get any easier, he thought. Then he ran into a third crisis afterwards. When the call for his head got too loud, he dashed for the drawer. With excitement he flipped it open for his salvation pill. And boldly written on a note in the envelope was “PREPARE THREE ENVELOPES!”

Borno State Indigene angry with Gov 's announced appointments for Special Assistants

Borno indigene took to Facebook to register his displeasure with what could be referred to as waste in government with the appointment of many special and senior special assistants for almost same job by the Gov. of Borno state, Kashim Shettima.

In an era where efforts are being made to reduce the cost of governance, and with the cash crunch in the economy, and many workers being owed months of monthly wage.. .this action of Gov. Shettima seems irresponsible. Where is the promised change!

NASS: When Experience Wrecked Expectations

As written by Emeka Obasi

The drama that unfolded following the election of Dr. Bukola Saraki as President of the Senate and the emergence of Mr. Yakubu Dogara as Speaker House of Representatives was expected. I saw it coming. Those who went partying after the March/April polls forgot that such situation could throw itself up. I am not an admirer of Senator Ike Ekweremmadu, never met him all my life. However, the way he wriggled himself back to the Senate was of interest to me. He was ready to give Governor Sullivan Chime a fight. At the end, both men played politics like gentlemen. The governor had his say in Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the senator had his way and Enugu is better off today. When the All Progressives Congress[APC] Tsunami struck Nigeria, some Peoples Democratic Party[PDP] stalwarts lost their head and began to cross over. Ekweremadu did not mince words. ‘ I will not leave PDP’, he said. Then Senate President David Mark also vowed to remain loyal to his party.

Photos: Behold the New Enugu State Secretariat

This is what the new Enugu State secretariat looks like. A delightful edifice.
It was constructed by the immediate past Gov. Sullivan Chime.

The project which costs N13.6 Bn, is designed to house all 13 ministries in one place. Departments and agencies and will have provision for the installation of modern day office equipment for workers.
There are 13 buildings in total which include 4 complexes. More photos below:

“Buharimeter” launched to track Buhari’s fulfilment of campaign promises

Nigerians are now ready to hold its politicians to account, as a civic group in Nigeria has quickly launched an online application to track the delivery of pre-election promises made by Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari.

The web-app, announced earlier in the week, holds data on all promises made by both the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and Mr. Buhari while campaigning for the 2015 general elections.
