Girl Grows Football Sized Tumor On Her Face

Grace, a 17-year-old girl in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has suffered for the last 10 years with a football sized tumor on her face.

She said that the tumor started growing little by little and the gums in her mouth started to swell. She went to the hospital, and they had no idea what it was. They did nothing and sent her home.

Over 10 years the tumor increased in size, as large as a football. Grace even stopped going to school. Not because she couldn’t, but because she was afraid of being made fun of by the other children.

Although she is able to eat and breathe, they were afraid that the fast-growing tumor might eventually suffocate her.

But thanks to the help of a floating hospital called Africa Mercy that travels around the world performing free medical procedures, she will finally get the help she needs.

Doctors performed a four hour operation on Grace to remove the tumor and replace her lower jaw with titanium plates.

Dr. Gary Parker, the surgeon who operated on Grace, says after six months she will be able to get artificial teeth that will help her chew.
