#Cyberwar : North Korea's Internet Connectivity is down. Courtesy of U.S. retaliation?

North Korea’s already tenuous links to the Internet went completely dark on Monday after days of instability, in what Internet monitors described as one of the worst North Korean network failures in years, according to NYtimes.com

The loss of Internet service came just days after President Obama pledged that the United States would launch a “proportional response” to the recent attacks on Sony Pictures, which government officials have linked to North Korea. While an attack on North Korea’s networks was suspected, there was no definitive evidence of it.

The entire sage started when Sony Pictures released a movie titled "The Interview", a satirical movie about a fictional assassination of North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un.. The North Korean regime however, didn't find it funny and allegedly hacked into Sony's computers through its secretive government sponsored team of hackers known as Bureau 121 , rendering thousands of computers inoperable and forced Sony to take its entire computer network offline. That wasn't enough, they then threatened terror attack on US citizens if Sony doesn't cancel showing the movie, forcing Sony to pull the interview from theaters and losing almost $200m. Then the US govt got involved and told Sony to go ahead and release the movie, that they don't take lightly to threats and promised to retaliate for the attack on Sony. It looks like they've kept their to promise. North Korea is currently offline.
