Amaechi Gets Easy Screening as PDP Senators Keep Mum at today's ministerisl screening
After stalling the screening of former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, three times, the Senate on Thursday screened the former governor for ministerial position.
As expected, Mr. Amaechi’s screening was not without drama and controversy.
According to the Premium Times account for the Senate Plenary on Thursday, The Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, first told the Senate that the PDP caucus would not ask him any question since the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions had not been debated by the Senate.

Selective Justice: Former Gov. Godswill Akpabio reportedly invited by EFCC over alleged multi-billion naira fraud
It has become clear that the fight against corruption by the Pres. Buhari Government is merely a witch-hunt. According to a breaking news report by Premium Times, former governor of Akwa Ibom State and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio was invited to EFCC office today. He was reportedly there around 5.20pm this evening accompanied by a few aides and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Ricky Tarfa.
An EFCC source is also said to have confirmed the development. He is reportedly being interrogated over an alleged N108.1billion missing Akwa Ibom money when he served as governor of the state.
And am asking when will EFCC also invite Former Gov Rotimi Amaechi, Former Gov. Fashola and some others who are also facing allegations of corruption during their tenure as Governors.
This is just a witch-hunt!

Before Pres. Buhari goes to America
Dr. SKC Ogbonnia is a leadership scholar and the Executive Chairman of First Texas Energy Corporation, Houston, Texas. He writes on the forth-coming visit of Pres. Buhari to the United States. He said Obama's administration has been less charitable to Africa, particularly Nigeria because of the endemic corruption that continues to ravage Nigeria, and therefore Pres. Buhari has a task to re-assure the Americans on his administration's anti-corruption stance, and a lot more. Read below:
President Muhammadu Buhari will be the guest of President Barack Obama of the United States of America on July 20, 2015. This visit is uniquely different. First, Nigeria no longer commands the respect and confidence it once did during the oil boom where the United States was competing to remain the top importer of Nigeria’s crude. Second, for no fault of his own, Buhari is going to America on a precarious perch to plead for Uncle Sam’s help. But before then, here is a necessary mock to consider.

Intriguing story of how Immigrants from Central America are forced to donate one of their kidney for a pass into the US.
Take notice of the scar on the side of each Central American immigrant going through Mexico to get to the USA
They are forced by local authorities in the state of Coahuila which borders with Texas to “volunteer” a kidney, of course the government of such state sells the kidneys to US agencies for hundreds of thousands of dollars, this is the price they pay to be allowed to cross through the Mexican territory.

War on Insurgency: Moving detainees or “suspects” to “faraway” Anambra State will not solve any problem.
Aniebo Nwamu writes about the detained Boko Haram suspects in the South-East prisons. He said the south-easterners who protest the presence of the Boko Haram detainees fear that one day they could cause a jail break and infiltrate south-east communities. Or better still, "their sponsors could invade the prisons and attempt to free them, as they have done several times in parts of the north, bringing calamities upon innocent residents." Read further below:
Only a few months ago, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu called on war veterans to prepare to defend the south-east from Boko Haram. At the time, the insurgents had hoisted their flags in its “caliphates” in parts of the north-east and were overrunning villages in Benue State, just next door to the south-east. Indeed, many suspects were, at the time, arrested at Obollo in Enugu State with improvised explosive devices, IEDs. “Fulani herdsmen” murdered at least three farmers in a part of Enugu State and vanished with their cattle. Shortly before then, almost 500 people were arrested in Abia State as they were travelling in a convoy; they said their destination was Port Harcourt. After their screening, no fewer than 80 of them were suspected to be terrorists.

Rivers State: "If Amaechi were thorough, why then should he be scared of a mere Commission of Inquiry?"
Mike Wilkie in his second part article titled "Amaechi: Life after power [II]" throw more light on the bad blood between Rivers State Gov. Nyesome Wike and his predecessor, Hon. Rotimi Amaechi. Read below:
In my first piece on this subject matter, I resolved to trace the ascendancy of Rotimi Amaechi to the Governorship position of Rivers State under the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) until his carpetcrossing to the All Progressives’ Congress (APC). I equally mentioned briefly his running battles with the Presidency, at which point, Amaechi threw all decency to the Atlantic Ocean and embarked on a mission of unprintable attacks on Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR) ex-President of the Nigerian Sovereign State. The totality of it all pointed to the fact that his actions and inactions led to the defeat of the APC in Rivers State by the PDP in all the elections, from the Presidency to the Governorship including the State House of Assembly. That Amaechi refused to vote in the presidential election, also directing his APC faithful members not to vote was a direct action which tilted towards an undefined failure and a fatal bruising of the ego of the ex-Governor.

"Lagos has a lousy reputation" - The Economist
The Economist in its recent article blasts Lagos State as a lousy city of unruly residents. But however said, "now that the APC holds power in Abuja as well as Lagos, the city has a chance to do better still. " Read full article below:
For a city that dubs itself the “centre of excellence”, Lagos has a lousy reputation. The mere mention of Nigeria’s commercial centre conjures images of crime, corruption and motionless traffic. The bodies of people run over in car accidents can be left on the street for hours and commuters in even the poshest parts of town are sometimes caught in shoot-outs between robbers and policemen. Little wonder then that in a ranking of the “liveability” of 140 cities by the Economist Intelligence Unit, a sister company of this paper, it sits in the bottom five.

Boko Haram: Pres. Buhari must rise to the occasion...by taking action, instead of releasing press statements
Okey Ndibe writes on the trending and perhaps most challenging issue in Nigeria at the moment, which is the Boko Haram insurgency in the North East. He says "the election of Buhari has (so far) failed to strike fear into the hearts of Boko Haram insurgents." Read full article below:
Last week was a particularly dispiriting time for forlorn Nigerians who continue to look to their government to deliver them from their woes. One of the reasons Nigerians dumped former President Goodluck Jonathan and hired Muhammadu Buhari was the expectation that the latter would have a firmer handle on how best to respond to the plague of violence sweeping through Nigeria’s northeast states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.

Ben Murray-Bruce: Why we should not insult people on social media
Senator Murray-Bruce is the senator representing Bayelsa East in the Senate. In his article, he said "we should not come on social media to abuse one another on partisan grounds. That to me is an abuse of the platform." Read more below:
Months after the 2015 elections ended, Nigerian youths are still hung up on those elections. Nowhere is this more obvious than on social media which our youths have turned to a battle ground divided into pro People Democratic Party (PDP) and pro All Progressives Congress (APC) youths. So ingrained is this animosity that each group targets elected officials and party chieftains of the opposing parties and go after them just on the basis of their party affiliation. Things reached a comical stage when a youth attacked me for a tweet on Twitter and hours later was praising a popular youth for his tweet. Unbeknownst to him was the fact that the youth had merely tweeted my exact words but had not credited me with the quote!

Between Buhari & Bukharin By Chuba Keshi
Strikingly interesting article! What Nigeria's Pres. Buhari has in common with old soviet politician, Nikolai Bukharin. Read below:
President Mohammadu Buhari was a Military Head of State and maximum ruler of Nigeria for two years. Nikolai Bukharin was initially the General Secretary of the Comintern and later Head of the favoured right wing of the Communist Party of the then Soviet Union for two years. In both capacities, both gentlemen were at the height of their power. But this is only the beginning of what seems to be a compelling parallel between the two apart from the share similarity in their names.

When the trekking bug hit Nigeria
Taiwo Adediran revisits the trekking bug that infested Nigerian youths, post 2015 elections. He said it was more of an act to curry favor and slanted recognition. Read below:
Nigeria is a country hardly short of amusing malady. It is a nation carved in parody with inhabitants suffering from an overflow of unanticipated comedy. In its latest episode of this humour personified, is the gale of trekking. After what seemed a momentary lull in the trend, news filtered across the social media that a man named Stanley, a University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) student decided to trek from Nsukka to the Enugu State government house in honour of Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as he is the first man from Nsukka to be elected governor of the state.

Dele Momodu shares his thoughts on Pres. Buhari's 30 days in office
Your Excellency, I write to you today with a heavy heart. The reason should be obvious. I was one of those latter day converts to Buharism, a political philosophy that believes in the reincarnation of former leaders in the days of tribulation. You were never the first man to resurrect from retirement and near political oblivion. General Olusegun Obasanjo bounced back from prison to Aso Rock Villa.
