Two Palestinian men who attacked worshipers at a Jerusalem Synagogue has been identified as cousins Uday and Ghassam Abu Jamal from the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Jabal Mukaber. Israeli police said Uday was 22 years old and Ghassam was 32 and had three children, according to Telegraph.co.uk.
Two Palestinians had attacked worshipers at a Jerusalem synagogue with axes, knives and a pistol, killing at least four before being shot dead by police. The attack took place shortly after 7am in an ultra-Orthodox neighbourhood of West Jerusalem.
Yaacov Cohen, 60, said he witnessed the shoot-out at the door of the Bnei Torah synagogue from his balcony across the street.
"I had been ready to go to pray at the synagogue when my wife, who was out walking, called me on the phone and told me not to go because there was shooting," he said.
"I went to the balcony and watched. I saw the police standing outside the synagogue and when the Arab came out they shot him. What happened inside, I cannot say."
Israeli police has arrested the parents and brothers of the men, as well as Ghassam's wife in a raid on their houses, which sit side-by-side in the hillside Jabal Mukaber neighbourhoood.
Relatives said the pair had driven by anger over the increasing number of visits by Right-wing Israelis to Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam which is also sacred to Jews, who know it as the Temple Mount.
A Hamas statement said it was
"a response to the murder of the martyr Yusuf Ramuni."While, Israeli Prime Minister has responded and said,
"We will respond with a heavy hand to the brutal murder of Jews who came to pray and were killed by lowly murderers. "
